After your car has been totaled by a reckless driver, It can be a helpless feeling at the hands of your insurance company when you know they are low-balling the value of your car. Their approach is take their offer or leave it. You are on your own with the insurance company and they are daring you to call an attorney but that comes with a lot of hassle and delays. My insurance company paid for the repairs but my vehicle was worth far less than it was before the accident. An attorney wanted 50% to help me recoup the difference. They produced a detailed document with an explanation of the value of comparable vehicles which I submitted to insurance. Then they walked me through the entire process. I practically never leave reviews, especially not positive ones, but Steve Dunham and Sun Auto Appraisers were absolutely excellent. THE STORY: I got a CCC report on my total loss and when I read through the report the ACV they gave was obviously low, but without an appraisal there was nothing anyone at State Farm was either willing or able to do. I had tried sending in my own comparables, pointing out issues with the CCC report, and I called numerous times to try to get them to give me a fair offer. Only after I contacted Steve on the phone did that change. ABOUT SUN AUTO: Steve was very knowledgable, responsive, and helpful. I spent most of a month arguing with my insurer. Within a week Steve had negotiated with the other appraiser and I recieved an offer for over 1600 more dollars for my vehicle! After taxes and everything the total offer was over 2000 dollars improved! Not to mention he didn't charge me a dime before the appraisal was agreed upon and locked in AND he guaranteed $1000 improved offer. For only a couple hundred bucks I gained 2000. I wish I wouldn't have bothered with arguing with State Farm in the first place and called Steve right away. TLDR: Sun Auto worked amazing for me, would 100% recommend to anyone who feels the total loss offer they got was unfair. There is no risk to calling them because they don't charge up front. Diminished Value - I'm an insurance agent in Illinois and I contacted Sun Auto to help my insured out that had their 1 year old, 10K miles on a 80K valued vehicle hit by an American Family insured that ran a stop sign. Prior to this I have used Sun Auto two other times for insureds for total loss evaluations that worked out great. Sun Auto made it very simple and with a little information they sent me a diminished value evaluation for my insured's vehicle that was very professional, with comps, their experience in the field, etc. In this case they determined since the vehicle repair estimate was around 25K that the diminished value was around 10K. American Family didn't argue or haggle with the evaluation at all and sent my insured an additional check for 10K. My insured was very happy with the outcome for the very minimum cost for the evaluation. Where do I start? I contacted Steve after I was in an accident on Valentine’s Day 2023. The at fault insurance company paid to fix my car but at the point of accident the value of your car is no longer there. After repairs I filed a diminished value claim with the help of Steve. The other persons insurance company kept jerking me around then claiming I wasn’t owed any diminished value (I’m sure a strategy to try to exhaust me and get me to back down) but I kept with the fight. I ended up taking the insurance company to small claims court and after months and months (7 to be exact) the judgement ruled in my favor…not the amount of Steve’s report but enough to have made this mostly worth while. Steve stuck by me the whole time and even was an expert witness at my remote trial. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Sun Auto!

I had an accident in January 2023 and received an unpleasant experience from communication with the at-fault driver insurance company. I did some research and learned what to do step-by-step in this case. I found Sun Auto Appraisers on the internet and contacted the company to obtain an appraiser report for the claim of the diminished value compensation. Steve helped me understand how it works even when the insurance companies refuse to pay the DV compensation or calculate it their own way. In my case, the company refused to pay the $5,000 shown in the report (I have a Mazda CX-5 GT 2019 with 21,343 miles by then). In the meantime, I sent the at-fault driver the certified demand letter, and he also refused to compensate me. After all those steps, Steve recommended filing a small claim, which is very common with this kind of case. I did. Diminished Value Claim in Florida; We were involved in an accident which was 100% the other driver's fault. The defendant's insurance co. took care of all the repairs without issue. However, when it came to Diminished Value they would not pay. For a long time they offered zero, then $2700, then $4400.We hired Sun Auto Appraisers to prepare a lengthy expert's report. It was minimum money well spent. The report was long and extensive, with comps including vin #'s, prices, descriptions and more. We had full coverage on a 2002 Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton Duramax. This truck was mint for a Minnesota truck. Received damage, Farmers automatically totaled it based on age. they appraised it at 10,500 +/- . I new this was wrong as you can't buy a rusted duramax this age for less the 12,000. I incurred a total loss with my truck. After receiving my first offer from my insurance company, which was downright insulting, I found Steve at Sun Auto Appraisers with a quick Google search. After a brief phone conversation, he reassured me that my suspicions were correct. I was getting a raw deal through my insurance company. He patiently waited for me to take a stab at negotiating myself to no avail. Steve quickly responded with an appraisal that seemed honest and fair with some of the same comps I had researched in my failed attempt to renegotiate. Within a day of sending Steve’s appraisal, I received a call from the manager which apologized and confirmed that Steve’s appraisal was fair. What a great experience! First of all Steve had more 5 star reviews than I’d seen with any other Independent Appraiser… with no bad reviews. From the start, Steve was extremely knowledgeable about how insurance companies do their Appraisals, and more specifically, he knew a lot about what mattered to me… Allstate. Steve spent about a half hour on the phone with me on our first call an I was convinced that he would be able to return a much higher valuation on my Range Rover Sport that Allstate had. Within 1 day of hiring Steve, he had already completed my Appraisal which was much more in line with where it should be. One more day later, he had negotiated with the Allstate Adjuster and my valuation landed at $11,460 higher than the insurance company’s valuation! My fee was 10% of that and I’m an extremely happy camper! I could never have gotten that kind of return myself or with another appraiser. He’s the real deal.

Steve did exactly what he said he would, got us an additional $4400, and we'd hire him again in a heartbeat. Esurance had offered us $13.6 K as settlement for our 2012 Toyota Tacoma which was determined to be a Total Loss. This was our first "Total Loss" so we didn't know what to expect. We felt $13.6 was about $2-3 K too low based on our own market analysis, but esurance wouldn't budge. So, we went thru the mediation process with esurance and used Steve as our appraiser. We had interviewed 3 appaisers before deciding to go with Steve. He was fast and very effective! We settled for $18.0K after hiring Steve to serve as our appraiser in the mediation process. Very pleased with his work!

My family was on vacation in Florida and were involved in a 3-car wreck all that started behind us while sitting at a light. Us being from Oklahoma we were not aware of Florida laws. Come to find out Florida does the diminished value claims. Once I arrived home, I started searching things up on the internet. Up on my searching I ran into Sun Auto Appraisers site. Of course, anything on the internet these days, you get leery if they are legit or not. I looked at reviews on Sun Auto site, I started searching people up on Facebook and asking people what their experiences were with Sun Auto Appraisers. One lady reached out and told me her story and that the site is legit. I then messaged Steve. He gave me his contact info right off the bat and talked to me and gave me advice before even asking me for the appraisal fee. It came time for the insurance company to settle the claim and they low balled me at 2500.00 then went to 2800.00 and to 5000.00. I had my depreciation value report from Sun Auto Appraisal and I knew I should get around 6000.00. With that being said I told them no, that I wanted the 6000.00 I knew I was going to have to negotiate so I asked for 5700.00 and they accepted. I contacted Sun Auto Appraisers about needing an appraisal on my total loss vehicle where my own analysis was showing the insurance company offering me only 80% of the value with a substantially flawed appraisal. Their appraisal helped me receive within 1% of what I expected the full ACV to be for my car. Thanks again Sun Auto Appraisers.

I was having real anxiety about the total loss price being offered by my insurance. I contacted Steve, sent the valuation report to him and got his advice on how to proceed. So helpful, even though he didn't think he could get me a higher settlement, he did not charge me and I still got excellent advice. Highly recommend.

12/03/21 Trying to navigate your ACV for your "Total Loss Vehicle" is a nightmare when you find yourself disagreeing with your insurance company's offer. I turned to Sun Auto Appraisers to do my appraisal. I am grateful to Steve and his partner Stella to rid me of the aggravation and stress involved in this process. Sun Auto was able to negotiate $3050 more for my auto than I was initially offered. Steve and Stella are experts in their field. They are professional, quick, and get the job done without any delays. I would recommend this company to anyone. Our car was totaled when someone in hit us from behind. Due to injuries, I just went through my carrier who'll then subrogate it over. Like all carriers, mine low-balled me big time. Evidently, this is what all of these companies do. NEVER ever ever take their first offer!!!! Use your Right To Appraiser (RTA) clause. Steve got me another $3500 for my totaled vehicle, which was a 2018 VW Tiguan with 46k miles on it at the time of the accident. Well worth Steve's fee for his time and professionally prepared appraisal.

I think I would’ve had a slight breakdown had Sun Auto appraisers not helped out. We got an additional $2400 for our vehicle, and he helped us fight to actually get the payment. Sun Auto Appraisers expertly, and professionally handled negotiations with representatives of my insurance company to obtain a much fairer outcome in a very difficult market. I will never again try working with the insurance company on a totaled car without hiring a professional (go with Steve!). He took all the headache out of the entire event, and nothing I did mattered comparatively. Save time and effort, hire the pro, and you'll get fairly treated. +$2,000 on a 2016 domestic vehicle.
